Women-Only Self-Defence Seminars are available nation-wide.
If you have a school, gym, dojo, town hall, rec-centre that can hold the people, then RBUD are happy to teach a Women-Only Seminar for you.
We usually ask that they are boked a minimum of three weeks in advance, but we can, at times, teach with less time than that.
These classes are for Women Only (as you might have guessed) aged 16 years and over. All levels of fitness, ability and experience are welcome.
It is best to wear something loose and comfortable, keeping zips/tassels etc to a minimum.
There is a fine line where what you do stops being self-defence and becomes an assault, and at RBUD we want to make sure you don't cross that line. You shouldn't have to face the possibility of a prison term just for defending yourself.
The Self-Defence classes are usually broken into segments;
Warm-Up and Stretching; This is a few basic body weight exercises and movement to get the blood pumping into the muscles before stretching. Stretching a cold muscle can actually be harmful, so proper technique is vital. After a week or two of stretching you will find that your body is more limber and you feel you have more energy. RBUD recommend that the you just spend 5 minutes at the start and end of each day to engage in very basic body weight exercises and stretching.
Techniques (Theory and Practical); The self-defence techniques are shown in the entirety, then shown again broken down step-by-step. It is thoroughly explained why the particular technique has been chosen, when/where/how is best to employ said technique, and what the pitfalls are of other techniques.
You are welcome to record the demonstration section of each technique for later review at home/your own leisure. Sometimes being given the information can be exhilarating, and you find that a day or two later you can't remember exactly how a technique was performed. By allowing you to record that portion of the class on your own device, you have the option of watching as many times as you wish.
Once the instructor is confident that you grasp the technique, you will take it in turns with a partner to practice for repetitions. You will have sufficient time to get comfortable executing each technique.
Cool Down: A short series of stretches and breathing exercises to cool down.
Q and A: After the session's physical segment is concluded, there will be your chance to ask any questions that have popped up. Obviously, you can ask as many questions as you like about the technique being shown as it is shown, but often times a question will only come to us after the fact. This is your chance to ask those questions. You are also welcome to record the Q and A section as well, as your instructor's answers might (in all likelihood will) include people's names/technique's names that you will forget between the classroom and your home.
Also, you are absolutely welcome, and actively encouraged, to contact RBUD at any time with any questions or suggestions. Many a time a student has learned something in a lesson, and then later in the week found themselves in a situation where they've thought What would be best here? If this is the case, contact the site and we will endeavour to address that situation in the next class.
